Be all the nerd that you can be

Everything is change. I’m not trying to sound vague or philosophical or spiritual, that sentence just seemed the best way to sum up the beginning of this site. I have recently made some monumental changes, and starting this blog is part of those changes. I rediscovered my love of technology and change and building. I can’t believe I ever forgot how much I love reading about the seriously science fiction technology that is being thought up and invented every day it seems. We have needleless injection systems? When did that happen? And gone are the days when you can’t get all the ketchup out of a bottle. Plus, we’re preparing for the days when we’ve used up so much water that we need to squeeze as much as we can out of our, shall we say, human byproducts.

As strange as some people may find these things, I find them wildly, incredibly exciting and encouraging. They show me that as much as there is awful stuff going on in the world, the hate and violence, that there is also love. Love of experimentation and discovery. Love of imagination and creation. People are dreaming of the way the world could be and the technology that can help us get there. But not only are they dreaming, they are pursuing those dreams. I’ll get this line out of the way now since it has to be said, no matter how cliché, the future belongs to the nerds. I would like to clarify my definition of nerd though, since it can have so many connotations. I think a quote from John Green puts it beautifully…

“…nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff… Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it. …when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.” –John Green

I implore you, please read that quote multiple times, read it out loud, write it down, share it with your friends. If everyone in the world were to fall under that definition of nerd, imagine what could come of it. Each and every person unabashedly enthusiastic about the things they love, pursuing them with all their energy. The world would be changing at a dizzying rate(even more so than it already is). We would be flying around with our own personal flight devices and vacationing to mars in no time. We would develop technologies and ways to finally start living harmoniously with this oh so essential rock we’re floating around on, instead of using it up at a sickening pace.

This site is part of my attempt to be the best nerd I can be. Sharing the things that excite me and make me want to jump up and down and giggle with delight. The things that make me want to go outside and rant about them to everyone that will listen. I hope you enjoy the things I share and that they inspire you to go out and find things that you want to share and that get you excited and giddy.

Be all the nerd that you can be.
